Most people forget unlike other social media platforms, Linkedin is the largest B2b platform in the planet!
It’s open 365 days, 24 hours and 7 days a week.
It never sleeps, never gets tired, always on as long as internet exist.
Linkedin is the best tool for your business
And an extension of your brand depending on how you make use of the platform.
As of June 2022, The time of this writing,
Linkedin has 830 million members in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
If we compare it to social giant like META's platforms,
Instagram where you need to stay on top of the latest trends,
or on Facebook where you’re always distracted by ads.
Linkedin has the least amount of ‘business creators’.
By definition he/she is someone who builds leverage around content
to build their reputation and generate revenue for their business.
What I mean by that is,
There is a huge opportunity for you to take a piece of a pie where only a few people are competing for attention.
Listen,
I’m not talking about...
-Funny Memes, Useless Polls, Cats Dancing Videos, or Staged Vulnerability Drama for engagement.
Rather connecting to your target customers based on their..
- Profile
- Interest
- Problems that needs solving
- and what stage are they with their informational needs.
I know this may sound repetitive,
But it’s important to map-out your buyer’s journey.
Now that we have enough context for today’s newsletter.
Follow this 5 simple steps to Cut Trough the Noise in LinkedIn.
1. Simplify Your Message
Gone are the days where you'll be able to get a buy-in from your target customers,
stakeholders, decision makers through a 1,000 word count text post.
Most of business leaders, c-suite or their direct reports (N-1, N-2) skim through your content and only read the headlines.
They don’t have time,
Cause the behaviour on reading newspapers versus reading online are completely different.
You’re always competiting for attention,
that’s why If you’re lucky and interesting enough, they will read it.
But…
When your content is not read it becomes a missed opportunity.
So here’s the thing,
You don’t want to leave it up to chance.
You want to make sure everytime you put out relevant content,
It captures attention and generate interest.
Here’s an example.
732 impression > Founders 41, CEO 22, Co-Founder 20, Managing Director 15, GM - 9
2. Linkedin as An Extension of Your Business.
You got to accept the fact that Linkedin is no longer what it used to be.
It’s no longer a site for CV, it’s a tool to grow your business, build your brand, and develop intimate relationships.
But like any other business,
You’re faced with unsourmantable challenges,
Which means there will always be competition.
And not to mention you’re battling for new customers, you're competing for 'Attention.'
If you haven’t optimized your Linkedin profile yet here’s how you can get started.
3. Build a two-way conversation with your target customers
Most people approach Linkedin as another distribution tool,
But if you’re not building up curiousity,
starting conversations, and getting inside your target customer’s inner dialogue,
No matter what content you post,
It’s like a crashing cymbal hoping you’ll be loud enough to get heard.
Here’s how to start building two-way conversation with your target customers.
Be curious
Ask relevant questions
Comment on their post
Let them share their thoughts
Always be open for criticism and feedback
4. Communicate ‘One big idea’
Most people confuse their audience by giving too much information.
Remember,
Everytime you communicate with your audience through a post, an aticle, a webinar, or a video.
You must learn to communicate...
One big idea <> Broken down to smaller chunks.
It’s similar with how best-selling authors publish their book.
There will always be ONE BIG IDEA (overarching theme.)
Here’s an example from one of my favourite authors — James Clear.
You’ll notice immediately,
Headline + Book Title <> Table of Contents > Smaller chunks.
Atomic Habits:
Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results
An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones.
(Big Idea <> Smaller chunks)
If done right.
Your target customers will be able to digest the idea and take action.
5. Become a specialist.
When people go to a hospital and seek treatment for their ailment, What type of doctor charges more?
a General Physician or a Specialist?
You already know the answer,
It’s the SPECIALIST.
When I am starting out offering marketing services for my clients, I try to do everything at once.
I’m doing brand activations,
producing videos, doing interviews, podcast,
events, social media, any creative brief that comes my way, I’d pitched and deliver.
On a revenue perspective it looks good.
But in reality…
I’ve become a commodity.
I’m like a chicken running around and wondering when’s going to be my next meal.
So what’s my point?
No matter the industry you’re in, the products or services you offer, If you want to cut through the noise,
Niche Down <> Narrow down your focus.
How do you get specialized?
‘Solve one specific problem for a specific group of people.’
Until you’ve gained recognition, trust and credibility,
You must be persistent in narrowing down your focus and not get distracted by what others are doing.
Do this and you’ll stand out from the rest.
Last I’d like to add.
Once you’ve get very well known at one thing, and your business grows then you can branch out on other niches.
Remember…
Narrow focus > Bigger Results > More money
Here’s an example.
(Wealth)
Generalist: How to make money fast.
Niched:
How to make money during a recession and still retire in your 40’s
by investing in high-dividend yield stocks that the top 1% invests in.
(VC)
Generalist: We invest in startups who has a cool idea.
Niched:
We invest in early stage fintech startups
in the middleeast who has a potential to be the next Paypal.
(E-commerce)
Generalist: We sell sports shoes.
Niched: We sell vintage limited edition NBA professional basketball shoes.
(Digital Marketing)
Generalist: Generate leads with digital marketing.
Niched: Generate 5X revenue by leveraging content to nurture your target customers via Linkedin Personal Profile Accounts. (Founders/C-suite)
